About Us
A proud, member-driven labour union representing more than 8,700 hardworking members across British Columbia and the Yukon — since 1936.
Our Union
Since 1936, Teamsters Local Union No. 31 has organized workers, negotiated strong collective agreements, enforced workplace rights, handled grievances, and defended members before employers, arbitrators, labour boards, and the Supreme Court of BC and Canada.
From the bargaining table to the shop floor, Local 31 fights for best wages, greatest benefits, safe working conditions, job security, dignity, respect, and real power on the job. When workers join Teamsters Local 31, they are never standing alone — they are joining one of the strongest and most respected unions in North America.
Our members earn some of the strongest wage and benefit packages in their industries because Local 31 combines experienced representation, strong collective agreements, trained Shop Stewards, legal support, membership solidarity, and substantial financial resources. When necessary, this Local Union has the power to take on any employer.
When our members stand together, no employer stands above the contract.
Who We Represent
Freight, cartage, tanker, heavy haul, port and rail, container off-docks, liquor and food distribution, moving and storage, third-party logistics, lumber, pulp and paper.
Courier, package and parcel drivers and warehouse employees, owner-operators, airline and airline-related services, grocery workers, and industrial mechanics.
Public sector employees in school districts, police departments, city utilities and services, public transit, school bus drivers and monitors, and coach lines.
The Local 31 Standard
We specialize in grievance handling, arbitration, health and safety, collective bargaining, mediation, Labour Board matters, WCB representation, organizing, and contract enforcement. Local 31 invests in representation — and in the strength of the membership itself.
Our Union Representatives are full-time agents of the Local Union. They know the work because they have done the work — and they are in our members’ workplaces regularly, enforcing agreements and standing up to employers.
Local 31 invests in in-house legal counsel to support the Union on labour matters, arbitrations, Labour Board proceedings, WCB matters, and the legal fights that come with representing working people.
We are one of the few unions that commits significant resources to representing members on WCB matters. When a member is injured at work, they deserve a Union that does not walk away when the fight gets difficult.
We train Shop Stewards, educate members, and support scholarships — developing Stewards into strong grievance handlers, problem solvers, and leaders in the workplace.
