President Stan Hennessy

President, Teamsters Local Union No. 31 · International Vice President · President, Joint Council 36 · A Teamster since 1972.

Biography

Stan Hennessy first became a Teamster in 1972 as a warehouseman. He held Shop Steward positions at two different Teamster companies before spending ten years as a Business Representative with Local 31 in Delta, British Columbia — representing members in the industries where he had done the work himself.

In 2002, he was elected President of Teamsters Local Union No. 31, whose jurisdiction covers British Columbia and the Yukon Territory, and he has been re-elected by the membership every term since. Trusted by Teamster leaders across Canada for his command of collective agreements, policy, government affairs, and labour strategy, he has delivered landmark wins for the membership — from settling major disputes and leading picket lines to negotiating key agreements, including UPS and the Abbotsford School District, advancing safety and Hours of Service reforms in Ottawa, and winning historic legal victories for members.

Beyond Local 31, President Hennessy serves the broader Teamster movement as an International Vice President, President of Joint Council 36 — representing Teamsters across BC and the Yukon — an elected member of the Teamsters Canada Executive Board, and National Assistant to the President of Teamsters Canada for Western Canada. He also represents labour as a board member or director of several Western Canadian organizations, including the Western Transportation Advisory Council (WESTAC).
