The Department
Teamsters Local 31 has represented drivers, owner-operators, dockworkers and warehouse employees across British Columbia and the Yukon Territory since 1936. It is the department the Local was built on, and it is still the largest.
Our members haul freight and cartage, run tanker and heavy haul, work port and rail and container off-docks, move liquor and food distribution, handle moving and storage and third-party logistics, and work in lumber, pulp and paper. Owner-operators are represented alongside company drivers.

Rates, mileage, premiums and overtime are written into a contract — not set at the discretion of a dispatcher.

Enforceable language on hours of service, equipment condition, load security and the right to refuse unsafe work.

Runs, shifts, routes and layoff order decided by seniority, not by who management likes.

A grievance procedure, a shop steward on site and a business representative who knows your yard.
